Awareness:I am presently connected to three e-mail accounts which I check on a regular basis. I possess an e-mail for my job, one for the university that I attend and the last one is for my personal use. Thanks to this class (EDTC Advanced Computer Applications in the Classroom), I now have a wiki space where I am having a good time learning and creating new pages for my wiki. Dabbling with technology has empowered me with useable knowledge that will help me in my profession.
Explore/Filter:Due to the possibility of receiving excess mail I debated for a while on whether to join a List Serve group or Blogging. I explored and read about list serving and decided on not joining, but I did join the teachers.net mailring network. I registered for topics dealing with health, physical activity, grant writing, politics, and current events for grades K-5th.
Learning:Previous to this class I did not know the two different ways of communicating on line were called asynchronous and synchronous. After reading about them I learned that I have been doing both through e-mails and text- messaging. Joining a list serve site has opened up a whole new world of communication with other professionals in my specific area, I hope to gain and share ideas and solutions with other educators outside my building.
Application:I am planning to apply all my newly acquired skills to my teaching and personal life. Learned technology used properly can broaden a person's life. I am in the process of exploring several physical education sites. Sites dealing with physical education and fitness would be the likely choices for me. I know the only way to learn new skills are to practice and use it, to make new skills applicable to me I must direct them to my field of interest.
Reflection:This module empowered me with new communication avenues with colleagues all over the world, the sharing and ideas which I can retrieve from this form of communication should enrich me as a teacher and a person. Through this module I know on line communication can be used as an effective tool in my daily life. Knowledge is Power!
